Cosmic Law

Walk Your Talk

(Excerpt from Laws of Wisdom)Chapter 12 (last chapter)

.... It is not enough to Know. We need to apply what we know, to realize the meaning of our personal truth in joyful action with others.

It is useful to try and know Cosmic Law, and then to apply these Laws of human potential, to modify our actions to conform with the natural Laws, because the fundamental lawfulness of the Universe is a basic and abiding truth. There are many quiet, inexorable rules which govern the order and disorder of the universe and our place in it. Some of these Natural laws have been discovered and are included in this book - Laws of Wisdom. Many more no doubt remain to be uncovered. To just ignore the Law, and conduct our life without either knowing them, or applying them, is foolish. In the words of Wilhelmine Keyserling:

These cosmic laws are the invisible root of our actions, our development and creation of life. We can ignore them, but we can also occasionally refer to them to correct our thinking or feeling."
Knowledge of these Laws for its own sake does not lead to Wisdom. The only point in knowing the Laws is to occasionally refer to them to make corrections. This is the procedural application of the Law. Law without procedure is just academic. Real lawyers only research and study the law in order to apply it. There are thousands of different procedures, methods and exercises for applying the gamut of Laws discussed in this book. Some are better for certain people than others. New procedures are developed every day. A few of the new procedures are excellent. Some are not. They might not work at all, so be cautious and skeptical. Promises of instant enlightenment are always a sham, a come one, designed to dupe the gullible and "spiritually naive." Even some of the older proven techniques may no longer be effective for the modern mentality. You need to find the ones which are right for you.

A few procedures have been referred to in this book, such as Individuation, Clear Thinking and Language, PrimaSounds, and the I Ching. As mentioned, it is difficult, perhaps impossible, to effectively teach legal procedures in a book alone. The transmission of this knowledge requires personal contact. This is why the practice of the law has always had an element of apprenticeship in it. A young lawyer fresh out of law school, like a young doctor out of medical school, is not really qualified to practice law or medicine. They must first complete an apprenticeship program, working with older lawyers and doctors. In the internship after school they learn what their profession is really all about by starting to apply the knowledge learned in school. In school you only learn knowledge, theories, but after school when you learn by doing, then you learn wisdom. Wisdom comes from living the laws, from using the procedures. It can only be transmitted by personal contact, by hands on instruction of procedures from one generation to the next. That is why teachers, psychological professionals, workshops and schools oriented to the Laws and Procedures, are so important to the world's future development. As the old institutions based on spiritual authoritarianism naturally crumble, they must be replaced by new centers for spiritual democracy.

Spiritual democracy was invented by the Ancient Greeks along with political democracy. It was Socrates in that tradition who first attempted to teach wisdom by applying procedures. His specialty procedure was questioning in a dialectic process made immortal in Plato's Dialogues. Socrates called his dialectic process "Maieutics." It is the "art of giving birth to an idea." Maieutics is the basic principal of instruction relied upon by the School of Wisdom in its activities. Classes and workshops at the School of Wisdom include not only the dissemination of useful information, but also the practice of physical, psychological and mental exercises to embody the ideas, give birth to them and make them real on all levels. This type of education is not the task of universities. They are oriented to research and instruction to young people; they are focused on knowledge, not wisdom. The program of Maieutics at the School of Wisdom is concerned with the entirely different challenge of personal attainment of wisdom, practical know how, useful application of the Laws for personal and social growth.

Take action now and move from study to practice. It is not enough to gain an intellectual understanding of the Law, you have to apply it, live it - walk your talk!
