Be the Ball: a golf instruction book for the mind. Jones, Charlie; Doren, Kim (Stark Books 2000).  Forward by Lee Trevano.  Based on interviews of pros and experts.

 

Be the Target: how to let go and play the game of golf. Huff, Byron (Contemporary Books 1996).  Good advice and drills with a forward by Bob Toski.  Highly recommend this book

 

Beyond the Fairway: Zen lessons, insights, and inner attitudes of golf. Wallach, Jeff (Bantam 1995).  Kind of a travel book of interesting and bizarre golf courses and experiences.

 

The Cosmic laws of Golf (and everything else).  Bowler, Printer (Berkley 2001).  He breaks it all down into seven fundamental laws.

 

Everything I Learned About People I Learned From a Round of Golf.  Andrisani, John (Alpha 2002).  Not many people can say that.  Talks about social etiquette.

 

Exploring the Zone: the mysterious phenomena of spontaneous excellence.  Miller, Larry (Pelican Press 2001).  James Redfield inspired and endorsed book on the Zone.  The author also wrote Holographic Golf.

 

Extraordinary Golf: the art of the possible. Shoemaker, Fred; Shoemaker, Pete (Perigee 1996).  Excellent turn-around teaching book by the “head-pro” of Esalen.

 

Gita on the Green:  the mystical tradition behind Bagger Vance.  Rosen, Steven (Continuum 2000).  Points out how the novel is derived from the ancient Hindu text.

 

Golf Begins at 50: playing the lifetime game better than ever. Player, Gary; Tolhurst, Desmond (Simon & Schuster 1988).  Great if you are 50 plus, or plan on playing golf at that age.

 

Golf Ching: golf guidance and wisdom from the I Ching.  MacClure, Terrance (Gramercy Books 1997).  The 64 hexagrams put into a golf setting.

 

Golf Dreams. Updike, John (Random House 1996).  Many short fictional works by the famous author.

 

Golf Flex: 10 minutes a day to better play. Frediani, Paul (Hatherleigh Press 2000).  Practical how-to book which shows you the best stretches for golf.

 

Golf For Enlightenment. Chopra, Deepak (Harmony Books 2003).  Deepak has discovered the game and loves it! Here he shows how his seven laws apply to golf. A good read, especially if you like Dr. Chopra and his many other books.

 

Golf in the Kingdom. Murphy, Michael (Dell 1972).  The classic book of the modern golf-spirit movement written by the co-founder of Esalen and pioneer of the human potential movement.  A must read, also the sequel, and all of Murphy’s other writings.

 

Golf: The Mind Game. MacKenzie, Marlin; Denlinger, Ken (Dell 1990).  Written by a sport’s counselor with neuro-linguistic training it contains 30 exercises.

 

Golf Rules Plain and Simple. Russell, Mark; Andrisani, John (Harper 1999).  The most frequently misunderstood rules are clearly explained with examples by a PGA Tour rules official.

 

The Golfers Guide to the Meaning of Life: lessons I’ve learned from my life on the links. Player, Gary (Rodale 2001).  Fifteen lessons on life learned via golf from the great Gary Player.

 

The Inner Game of Golf.  Gallwey, Timothy. (Random House, revised ed. 1998).  He wrote the Inner Game of Tennis and later in this book tries to apply his expertise to golf.

 

The Legend of Bagger Vance. Pressfield, Steven (Harper 1995).  The book is even better than the movie, but you should also see the movie too.

 

Mind Over Golf. Coop, Richard (Simon & Schuster 1993).  One of the first on the mental side of golf by a well respected ed-psych professor.

 

Newton on the Tee: a good walk through the science of golf.  Zumerchik, John (Simon & Schuster 2002).  Good explanation of the physics of golf.

 

Physical Golf: the golfers guide to peak conditioning and performance.  Wolkodoff, Neil (KickPoint Press 1997).  Very complete by a Ph.D. trainer of PGA and LPGA golfers.

 

Play Golf in the Zone: the psychology of golf made easy. Martin, Gary; Ingram, Derek (Van der Plas Publications 2001).  Written by a psych professor and club pro in Canada.

 

Play It as It Lies: golf and the spiritual life. Linder, Mike (Westminister John Knox Press 1996). Author is a Catholic Priest in Tennessee who loves golf and its moral lessons.

 

Putting Out of Your Mind.  Rotella, Bob (Simon & Schuster 2001).  Author of many good books on golf psychology, here he advocates a no-thinking, clear mind, positive attitude approach to better putting.

 

Tiger Woods: How I Play Golf.  Woods, Tiger (Warner 2001).  A cash-in book with some good points by the great Tiger Woods and the editors of Golf Digest.

 

Wit and Wisdom of Golf: insightful truths and bad lies. Barkow, Al; Barrett, David; Janke, Ken (Publications International 1998).  A good collection of quotes and anecdotes.
